Prego Contest Winner

Well it's official! My photo of Kayla won the 5 Minutes for Mom Prego Fun With Food Photo Contest! Thank you so much to everyone who spread the word on their blogs, emailed, and voted! I really appreciate it! What a great opportunity this is for me to be able to give the gift card to the local community.

I do have to admit, when I first had the idea to donate the card it wasn't as easy as making that decision and that was that. No, I had an argument with myself, inside my head :) Back and forth it went Hmmm...there are a lot more people who are in need of groceries then my family then yeah but it's $500! I know, but I could do something really good with this and give it to a family who is struggling financially right now. Yeah but you're giving up $500! Do you realize what you're thinking about? LOL

But in the end, once I had that thought planted in my head I couldn't shake it and knew that's what I would do. Thanks to all of you for helping make this happen!

Last week I came across the story of Brendan Fraser and his last dying wish. Trust me, you'll need tissues after watching his story. As this 11 yr old boy was losing his battle with leukemia he spent his last days feeding the homeless. How fitting that his quest to feed the homeless came at a time I was planning on donating a grocery gift card. After reading his story, and watching the video, it just solidified in my mind that this was the right thing to do. Even though I had decided to do this before hearing of Brandon's last wish, I'd like to know that, in a way, I'm doing this in honor of his memory too.

On another personal note; if you could please keep my grandma in your prayers I'd really appreciate it. She fell and broke her hip. She just had a partial hip replacement today and will now have about a 6-wk recovery period in a nursing home. They live in WI, and it's the winter now, so I just pray that it's not too hard on my grandpa going back and forth too. Thank you for your prayers.

Knowing what you planned to do with that gift card if you won, I was thrilled when I saw the announcement at 5MFM. Congratulations! I'd love to see the reaction when you give them that $500.

Your poor grandmother - I think falling and breaking a hip is something everyone worries about at this age. I'll keep her and your grandfather in my prayers.

Praying for both your grandparents.

Congrats. I understand your feelings completely, when I found out you had won, I felt bad for a minute for you that you weren't going to keep it for yourself. I'm sure it's one of those things that sounded good in theory, but you wouldn't be human if it didn't give you at least a tiny pause!

Congrats!

Not many people would be so quick to turn around and donate $500 to those in need. Just goes to show how special you are :) I'm honored to cyberknow you.

I'll keep your grandparents in my prayers. My dad broke his hip back in September; it is a long recovery.
